Vanessa Carlton's tour might have ended abruptly but her marriage surely made up for the cancellation. Last December 27, Carlton married her boyfriend John McCauley in an intimate nature-themed ceremony.

Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks has been chosen to officiate the wedding. McCauley, a member of the band Deer Tick, did not waste his time in proposing to his girlfriend especially after the surgery that she went through.

Two months ago, the 33-year-old songstress had to undergo a surgery because of her ectopic pregnancy. Due to her crucial condition, some parts of Vanessa Carlton's tour were cancelled. She later underwent chemotherapy but the procedure wasn't able to save her right fallopian tube.

"I announced that I was pregnant during the first week of tour.  The day after our NYC show on Oct 15th, I was diagnosed with an ectopic  pregnancy, or in my case it was a fallopian pregnancy (the embryo settled  in my tube, which is the width of a straw.)  This is not considered a  viable pregnancy because the fetus cannot develop and it is a high risk situation for the mother because of the potential for tubal rupture and internal bleeding," the 'Thousand Miles' singer wrote last November in her attempt to apologize to fans for the tour cancellation in Vancouver, Bellingham, Seattle, and Portland.

Despite such health challenge, Carlton believes that the experience made her closer to her then fiancé. She recalls how McCauley travelled all night just to be with her in the emergency room.

"It is also very important to note that this is the second time I ended up  in the ER without underwear! However,  upon waking up the next morning in the hospital, and as my doctor was  explaining to me what happened the night before, my fiancé showed up. He had flown all night. He had my underwear. My hunter green lace ones:-)  I realize I am a lucky woman on many levels here."
