In light of his busy schedule, 'Wolverine' star Hugh Jackman has decided to set priorities for the coming year. He has backed out of a grueling commitment for a Broadway Musical and entered into negotiations for a movie role.

Jackman was a former Tony Award Winner before he became associated with the Admantium claws of Marvel's Most Popular Mutant.

It was a big loss for the production, as Jackman also collaborated in the creative process and the development of the script. From People.com, Jackman was quoted: "I have greatly enjoyed the collaborative process on 'Houdini.' Ultimately, though, I wasn't able to commit to the time this role will require."

Talking to NineMSN.Au, he adds: "I have tremendous respect and admiration for the creative team and I wish everyone the best. "

The producer of the musical, Scott Sanders, claims Jackman did not do an 'escape act' and harbors no hard feelings toward the actor.

 "Hugh has been terrific to have on this part of the journey. We will continue to move forward with our remarkable creative team, as they craft this ambitious new musical."

There were some critics who argued that Jackman was not fit to play the great escape artist. Houdini's success stemmed in part because he was frail and only 5'6" as opposed to the imposing Jackman, at 6'2."

That was not a problem when he played Wolverine, though. According to the Marvel Universe series released in the 80s, Wolverine's listed height is only 5'3."

Meanwhile, the Aussie star will not be at a loss for projects. He is reported to be in talked with Warner Bros. for the role of Blackbeard, a pirate villain in an upcoming remake of Peter Pan. Variety reports that the role was originally offered for Javier Bardem.

While he is set to wear another costume, the 45 year old thespian recently generated Oscar buzz for his role in "Prisoners," playing the very realistic role of a father whose daughter has gone missing.
