Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch price, specs: The $300 wearable gadget has sold more than 800,000 worldwide according to the South Korean tech giant, making Samsung the wearable tech leader in the industry. The unit is also available in dozens of countries worldwide, where Samsung intends to strengthen its foothold in the new tech product segment.

According to Android and Me, the Galaxy Gear may have only been in the market for a few months but it’s updated version, the Galaxy Gear 2 maybe released this coming year at the Mobile World Congress.

Sam Mobile also reported that Samsung may release the Galaxy Band, a health and fitness wearable band that can track heart rate, blood pressure and will presumably be used with the S Health.

The first version of the Samsung Galaxy Gear has a built-in camera, 1.63-inch AMOLED touchscreen and a total 70 apps is now available in 58 countries as the South Korean tech giant looks to make in roads in other markets. With the almost a million of it sold, the Galaxy Gear has made Samsung the leading wearable tech manufacturer.

According to the Guardian, Samsung bested Apple, Microsoft and Google in becoming the first to launch a smartwatch, which will create a new market that is predicted to rapidly grow in the coming years.

“Smartwatches will be the most important new product category in consumer electronics since the iPad defined the market for tablets,” Chris Jones, vice president of technology analyst firm Canalys told the Guardian.

“Software platforms tied to smartwatches will also be a tremendous opportunity for developers to write apps in categories such as health and wellness or sports and fitness.”

This is key reason why the Samsung Galaxy S4 is now supporting the Galaxy Gear. Other Samsung devices supporting or are expected to be supporting the smartwatch by now include Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Samsung Galaxy Mega and Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini.
