A unit dubbed as Sony Xperia Z1S, which would could be known as the Sony Xperia Z1 Mini in the U.S. was spotted in an FCC documentation.

GSM Arena reported that the doc shows diagram and some other details about the unit. Some of the info shows that the Z1s has a footprint of 129 x 64.99mm. The compact version of the updated Z1, as per the Z1s info, will be powered by Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

Earlier speculations suggest that the Sony Xperia Z1 Mini will have a 4.3-inch display but will have the same 20.7 megapixel camera and Snapdragon 800 chipset that the original Z1 has. In terms of design, it will also be water-resistant.

According to GSM Arena, the latest rumor on its launch date is 1Q 2014 and will be priced at around $590. The Japanese version of the smaller Z1 flagship is called the Xperia Z1f and is already available in the country through NTT DoCoMo. If in case we see the unit at CES next week, the availability date of the Z1 Mini could come a little later.

The huge deal noted for the launch of the Sony Xperia Z1 Mini is that it’s the first “Mini” to use the same internal spec as its full-size counterpart. The “Mini” versions of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One all had downsized specs compared to their original flagship version.

Many anticipate the Sony Xperia Z1 Mini to have full 4G LTE and 3G (including HSPA+) as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB and GPS, which Know Your Mobile says is a standard for a smartphone in this class and is very much consistent with Sony’s previous offerings.
