Pokemon X And Y: Transgendered Character Axed In English Release? 'Mewtwo Awakened' Releases On DVD In Japan!

As the New Year begins, an interesting Pokemon X and Y factoid might have been discovered by clever internet sleuths.

According to Kataku, a particular opponent in the Battle Maison in X and Y purports to have been former Black Belt in English, but the Japanese dialogue says something quite different.

"Yes a mere half year ago I was a Black Belt! Quite the transformation, would you say?" asks the opponent in English.

"Only half a year ago, I was a Karate King. The power of medical science is amazing, isn't it?" says the original Japanese text, according to Nazerine on Tumblr.

Reportedly, this could be a direct reference to a Pokemon trainer class, where a male opponent is referenced. If so, does this mean Game Freak inserted a transgendered character into Pokemon X and Y? And did the English localization remove the reference?

"I think it's sad that transgender people are still such a hot topic that even the smallest inclusion stirs up so much talk," says Marmotte.

"It is certainly a bit sad that this has to receive notice at all, and it's almost sadder that it looks like it was made even more ambiguous for the foreign release," adds Truthtellah.

Meanwhile, the latest Pokemon movie, "Genesect and the Legend Awakened" has been released on DVD in Japan!

According to Serebii, the release also comes with the Pokemon short, "Eevee & Friends."
