‘Bond 24’ Rumors: Idris Elba Denies He’s The Next James Bond Contender, ‘Hates’ The Phrase ‘Black Bond’

The latest "Bond 24" rumors hinted that Idris Elba could be the next James Bond contender, after Daniel Craig retires as the agent 007 in "Bond 24," the next installment in the James Bond series. But Idris Elba says they are just rumors, and in fact hates the phrase "Black Bond."

Idris Elba has denied he will be replacing Daniel Craig as James Bond in the franchise's next film after "Bond 24," Metro reports

Elba, who recently played the late Nelson Mandela in "Long Walk to Freedom," said there was "no truth" to the rumors that he was a possible contender for the James Bond role after Daniel Craig.

"I've always detested the phrase "Black Bond", I just don't understand it," Elba told ITV's Lorraine.

"We don't say 'White Bond,' we just say 'Bond,' so it suddenly becomes a black man and he's a 'Black Bond.' So I hate that phrase - and it's a rumour that's gotten out of control, basically - but that's all it is. There's no truth in it whatsoever."

Elba previously told the Huffington Post: "I say it all the time, but if it was to ever happen and if I was ever to get offered that role, that would be the will of a nation."

"That would be like, 'Wow, human beings are really powerful,'" he continued. "'They really made that happen, because [Bond producer] Barbara Broccoli certainly didn't' ... it would be the will of a nation because everyone has been saying that to me."

Daniel Craig will return as the British spy in the next Bond installment, set to premiere November 6, 2015. Sam Mendes will also return to direct the 24th film, currently titled "Bond 24." Ralph Fiennes will take over the role of M, the head of M16, from Judi Dench. Dench has portrayed M since 1995 and has appeared in seven James Bond movies.

Fiennes recently admitted that he has almost no information about his character in the upcoming James Bond film.

"I know nothing, I've not been told anything, I have no information, no dates, no sense of the journey of my character at all! I don't!" Fiennes told Reuters, the New York Daily News reports.
