Oscars 2014 Predictions – ‘The Wolf Of Wall Street’ Will Be Snubbed For Glorifying Criminals? Movie Sets New Record For Most ‘F-Bombs!’

"The Wolf Of Wall Street" would merit an Oscar nomination just because it's Martin Scorsese and his new 'muse' Leonardo di Caprio. It's not that easy anymore, as the movie faces some moral questions. It did break a former Scorsese record, though.

From the Independent UK: "Leonardo DiCaprio as infamous Wall Street trader Jordan Belfort, can claim one triumph: no non-documentary film has ever dropped quite so many F-bombs. According to a report by Variety, with 506 "f****" in its two-hour, 59-minute running time, Wolf uses the profanity approximately 2.81 times a minute."

Former record holders include Scorsese's own 1995 movie "Casino" and 1990's "Goodfellas." But the movie that TWOWS beat is Spike Lee's serial killer drama "Summer Of Sam." It had 435 F-bombs. It still keeps the belt for F**ks per minute because of its 142 minute running time. The actual rate is 3.06  per minute.

However, the F-bombs are just the tip of the iceberg for "The Wolf Of Wall Street." While the audience is well aware not Martin Scorsese is not really a Sunday School film director, some critics thought that the movie pushed the limits too far, that it bordered into irresponsible tolerance or destructive behavior.

Variety editor Whitney Friedlander addressed the question of "Does 'The Wolf Of Wall Street' glorify criminals?" She took the "Yes" side.

She admits that it's definitely not the first film or even TV show that 'glamorized' the criminal lifestyle. Citing "The Great Gatsby" "American Hustle" and TV shows like "The Sopranos," "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad," TWOWS is in the same mold, but has a missing element.

From Variety: "But the difference is that all of those characters were seen facing serious consequences, even if they didn't actually handle them well, and they suffered because of their actions. Belfort may have served his time, but - as the movie shows - he then traveled the world to teach his strategies to others who looked up to him and wanted to emulate him. Oh, and he's also shopping his own reality TV show."

Good did not exactly triumph over evil, and there was also no show of remorse. The Academy has a lot of choices this year, and it's unlikely they would choose the risky one if it's not actually better than the others.
