T-Mobile CES 2014: CEO John Legere Crashes AT&T Party, Gets Thrown Out; Reporter Says CEO & Crew Got Passes From Macklemore’s Agent

T-Mobile CES 2014: T-Mobile CEO John Legere crashes an AT&T party at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas last night and was promptly thrown out after being discovered.

The incident was reported by CNET and confirmed by the T-Mobile CEO on his Twitter feed. According to CNET reporter Roger Cheng, Legere and his crew got their passes to the event through Macklemore’s agent, who performed at the party with his duo Ryan Lewis. The AT&T party was for its software developers who were capping a conference the same day. Legere claims he was there for the music act.

Cheng, who recounted the story in a CNET post titled “How I got T-Mobile’s CEO kicked out of AT&T’s CES party” described the series of events as “surreal.”

Cheng was attending the AT&T developer’s party (presumably as an invited guest) and ran into a familiar face at the Palm’s taxi line- the T-Mobile CEO. The tech journalist said that after getting in without any problems, him and Legere stopped to take a snapshot and Cheng tweeted about it.

About 15 minutes later, there were several security guards who surrounded Legere and escorted him out of the venue. The reporter says that though the CEO claimed he was attending for the music, it’s more likely he was aiming for the kind of outcome where he’ll be kicked out.

Legere took the top post at America’s fourth-largest wireless carrier last September and has portrayed himself as a rebel in the wireless industry, both in terms of personal style and business models. The 54-year-old executive has branded T-Mobile the “Un-carrier” and removed traditional two-year service agreements.

Mecury News notes that Legere has launched initiatives aimed at luring iPhone users from AT&T and T-Mobile. In what seems like a response from America’s leading carrier, AT&T began offering T-Mobile subscribers $200 for switching to AT&T.

In a report by Tapscape, the UnCarrier 4 business strategy that will be announced by T-Mobile tomorrow at the CES will once again target AT&T’s customer base, referring to earlier tweets from Legere.
