Former Venezuelan beauty queen Monica Spear was shot and killed by unidentified armed gunmen in Caracas moments after a car accident, leaving many wondering if the crime may have been planned.

The 29-year-old telenovela star was on a road trip with ex-husband Henry Thomas Berry, who was also killed, and subsequently got into a small accident on the Valencia-Puerto Cabello highway, NBC News reports.

Unidentified armed gunmen approached their car moments after they began waiting for a tow truck and were killed, NBC news also reports.

The couple's five-year-old daughter Maya survived the incident despite being wounded.

"To think there are people who can shoot a mother and father in front of their daughter is very sad and unbelievable," close friend Diego Sanchez said, according to the site.

"And it's shocking when it happens to someone you know."

Venezuelan police officials have not tracked down suspects involved in the incident.
