Orange Is The New Black Promotes Transgendered Awareness As Season 2 Cast Member Pablo Schreiber Gets Divorced

As "Orange is the New Black" continues filming for season 2, cast member Laverne Cox and Pablo Schreiber are receiving media attention for very different reasons.

Recently Cox—who plays transgendered prison inmate Sophia Burset on "Orange is the New Black"—sat down with Katie Couric to promote transgendered issues and awareness.

During the interview, controversy arose when Katie Couric continue to focus on the issue of genitalia with transgendered individuals, to which the "Orange is the New Black" cast member responded eloquently.

"I do feel there is a preoccupation with that. The preoccupation with transition and surgery objectifies trans people," Cox said to Katie Couric. "And then we don't get to really deal with the real lived experiences."

"The reality of trans people's lives is that so often we are targets of violence. We experience discrimination disproportionately to the rest of the community. Our unemployment rate is twice the national average; if you are a trans person of color, that rate is four times the national average. The homicide rate is highest among trans women. If we focus on transition, we don't actually get to talk about those things."

Meanwhile, "Orange is the New Black" season 2 cast member Pablo Schreiber is getting the divorce papers from yoga instructor Jessica Schreiber.

Schreiber—who plays George Mendez aka "Pornstache" on "Orange is the New Black"—received the divorce papers on grounds of irreconcilable differences.

According to TMZ, Pablo and Jessica have a 5-year-old son and a 22-month-old daughter. Reportedly, Jessica is demanding full physical custody and spousal support.
