"John and Katy flew about 12 of their closest friends to Hawaii," a source close to John Mayer revealed to Life & Style. "They wanted it to be very special, so they flew them on a private plane."

The insider continued: "John is usually so private so the fact that he flew all his friends in to be with them was very special.

"John and Katy greeted all of them with huge smiles and hugs and told them she wanted each one of them with her and John in Hawaii and that she loved them all."

Are the "Who You Love" singers planning a wedding in Hawaii and hoping to secretly get married?

John recently made headlines when he referred to Katy as his "wife" backstage during their joint Dec. 17 appearance on "Good Morning America."

Perry, 29, started dating Mayer, 36, in August 2012, eight months after separating from her ex-husband, Russell Brand. In August of last year, rumors started buzzing that Perry and Mayer may get married soon.

"John has been asking Katy's friends tons of questions, like what kind of engagement ring she would want and what the best way to propose would be. They've been so serious about each other ever since they got back together [in June]," a source told Life & Style.

"John wants to do something special, probably around the holidays. There are a lot of options on the table. Nothing is ruled out. It could happen on a romantic getaway or during a family dinner."

Their trip to Hawaii might be that romantic getaway wedding John was hoping for!
