‘The Amazing Spider Man 2’ Plot Spoilers - Dane De Haan Becomes The Green Goblin? Will Gwen Stacy Die In The Sequel?

'The Amazing Spider Man 2' is tasked with introducing Sony's concept of a Spider Man universe. Sony has already committed to two other sequels beyond this film and two other spin-offs were announced. Failure is not an option at this point.

One of the pivotal roles in the Spider Man universe is that of Harry Osborn. Peter Parker's best friend/rival who would turn into his nemesis and maybe even his ally will be portrayed by rising young star Dane De Haan.

For the lead stars, they talk about their characters in terms of long term development (most of them signed multi-picture contracts). De Haan talks to Digital Spy about the central dilemma of his character:

"When you first meet Harry he's just graduated from high school, and he has to come back to New York to help deal with Oscorp, and its legacy, and his father [Norman Osborn, played by Chris Cooper]. He also sees Peter Parker for the first time in a long time; they were childhood friends. So it's really about Harry having a friendship with Peter and an allegiance to Peter, but also being the heir apparent to Oscorp, and having to deal with that.

"It's becoming very obvious that all of these villains are originating from within Oscorp, in one way or the other. There are things that Harry feels he owes Peter, and things he needs from Peter, there are things he feels he needs from Spider-Man, and then there's his responsibility to Oscorp. It's a very complicated storyline, really cool and dynamic."

Another integral character is Gwen Stacy, Peter's high school love. Played by Emma Stone, another up and coming actress, most comic book fans know her inevitable fate. Stone shares with Interview magazine:

"Essentially the argument is that Spider-Man kills her by accident, so the person she loves is the person who kills her, which is the most horrifying thing. Apparently people unsubscribed to the comic book when that happened because they were just so flipped-out over it. But, of course, I want to stay true to that."

Thus, the death scene will be faithful to the comic book story subtly titles "The Night Gwen Stacy Died." It is still Marc Webb and the writers' decision on how exactly they will portray it. The big question now is not 'will' but 'when?' Will Gwen Stacy make it to the "The Amazing Spider Man 3?"

She will be in "The Amazing Spider Man 2" in theaters May 2, 2014.
