"Wrecking Ball" singer Miley Cyrus being the new face to represent designer brand Marc Jacobs did not come as a surprise, as it's no secret that the 21-year old pop star considers Jacobs her "fashion mentor." The "twerking queen" has worn Jacobs' design to the Met Ball and even presenting him with the Superstar Award at the recently concluded Fashion Group International's Night of Stars awards.

Fashion photographer David Sims shot the summer/winter collection for 2014, where Cyrus is seen on the sandy beach with two other models - Natalie Westling and Esmerelda Seay Reynolds - in a post-apocalyptic scene, which is described by some who have seen the photos as "dull."

"We wanted this beach with girls kind of sulky and broody, and we thought it would be cool if it was Miley with what could be two friends, feeling distant and quite dark," Jacobs explained to WWD of the idea.

LOVE magazine editor-in-chief Katie Grand, who recently put Miley on a controversy with Beyonce following her interview, designed the advertisement.

Marc Jacobs explains why the brand decided to choose the "twerking queen" sensation for the collection.

 "We all just love her and her entire being, her energy, her talent, her intelligence, everything. There's nothing I don't like about her. She is just genuine and very natural," Jacobs explains, adding that he became friends with her through his business partner, Robert Duffy.

This was not the first time for the "Wrecking Ball" singer to campaign for the designer. Miley Cyrus previously took part on Jacobs' "Protect The Skin You're In" movement, wearing only a T-shirt supporting the skin cancer awareness charity.

The brand who has been turning to German photographer Jeurgen Teller for their photoshoots on their seasonal campaigns has confirmed that the sudden change of photographer was due to Teller's unwillingness to work with Miley Cyrus.

"I have worked with Juergen for years and love him as an artist. He just didn't want to shoot her," Jacobs confirmed.
