As 'Mean Girls' celebrate its 10th anniversary, it is only apt for movie director Mark Waters to reveal some secrets about the famed chick flick. Tina Fey's comedy film has been so successful that 'Mean Girls' quotes are still being used these days.
While Rachel McAdams convincingly played the stealthy Regina George, Waters admitted that the 'The Notebook' actress originally auditioned for the role of Cady Heron. However, Time Entertainment deemed McAdams as a woman who's "too mature to play the innocent" role of the film's heroine.
The film director similarly talked about the impact McAdams had with Lohan: "When Lindsay was acting with Rachel, she got very shy, because Rachel was older and a very accomplished actress/ She'd come in the room and not talk to Lindsay - she was very focused. Lindsay kind of got nervous around her, and I thought that, more than anything, was going to be the deciding factor, the fact that she affected Lindsay in that way."
The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) almost gave 'Mean Girls' an R-rating because Waters included the word "vagina" in one of the memorable 'Mean Girls' quotes. However, Waters debated with them and insisted that nothing's wrong in saying the actual name of the female genitalia.
"We told [the MPAA], 'You're only saying this because it's a girl, and she's talking about a part of her anatomy. There's no sexual context whatsoever, and to say this is restrictive to an audience of girls is demeaning to all women,'" said Waters.
