‘Now You See Me 2' Movie Confirmed To Start Production In September 2014! Will They Bring Back The Original Cast?

The sequel to the 'mild' summer hit "Now You See Me" has been confirmed to start production. The magic themed heist movie will start production this September. Will they get the original cast to reprise their roles?

The film's surprise success in a summer full of sequels and franchise movies with titanic budgets, the quirky and fresh idea of magicians pulling off a real 'fast one' was a breath of fresh air. Based on the income alone, the studio already wanted a sequel.

According to Lionsgate CEO, Jon Feltheimer, who spoke to financial analysts about the film in Deadline: "(We are shooting in international locations)..to capitalize on the property's international appeal, with most of the original cast returning, and some exciting new additions. This is a perfect example of how we're benefiting from the unique international infrastructure of output deals, joint ventures and self-distribution we've set in place to maximize value and minimize risk."

"Most of the original cast" should refer to the "Four Horsemen" consisting of Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher and Dave Franco and their ringmaster Mark Ruffalo. They probably would not bring back Morgan Freeman's character. The "new additions" are rumor mill fodder at this point.

Director Louis Letterier has confirmed that he will direct, but the final script is up of for grabs at this point. Speaking to Coming Soon.net: "I'm currently, not writing, but we're coming up with the story, the plot, the everything, the twist and the new characters and everything. It was always at least a diptych, two movies, to tell one long story, so yeah, I'm very much involved in it. I don't know if it's going to be my next movie. I know we want to do it pretty fast but I might be able to do another movie in between."

Did they actually plan on making this is a franchise beforehand (considering the ending): "It was sort of ending up (with the movie) in 'onto further adventures,' which is fine, but we don't really do that. We had a scene that we kept and when Lionsgate and Summit said, 'Yeah, let's do a sequel,' I said, 'Okay let's put it on the DVD and do the longer cut. It's after the credits, but I was very conscious of not jinxing it. This summer I saw a couple of movies where they had 'sequelitis' and you totally jinx it, but this was only for the DVD and only for the Blu-ray."
