Coffee lovers are piling up in a coffee shop in California. It just opened this weekend but in a short time, it became a sensation. It is not because of the coffee or any special products they sell. It is because of the name.

Dumb Starbucks in Los Feliz instantly became a sensation for coffee and non-coffee lovers. Yes, there is that 'dumb' word at the beginning of the name.

Dumb Starbucks is the parody version of the world famous coffee shop. It looks exactly like Starbucks, from the menu to the logos, uniforms to the seats, almost everything but not entirely.

In a FAQ copy released by the company, they insisted that they are just a parody version and not in any way related to the original.

When it comes to the legality of their chosen brand title, the company lives by the phrase, 'parody law.'

"Although we are a fully functioning coffee shop, for legal reasons Dumb Starbucks needs to be categorized as a work of parody art. So, in the eyes of the law, our "coffee shop" is actually an art gallery and the "coffee" you're buying is actually the art. But that's for our lawyers to worry about. All you need to do is enjoy our delicious coffee!"

Difference from the original

All the shop's products are introduced by the word Dumb. Dumb Espresso, Dumb Iced Coffee, and Dumb Frappuccinos.

We're aware and this isn't a Starbucks location and we're looking into it," Starbucks rep Megan Adams told THR.

The basic idea here is that artistic and editorial parodies of trademarks serve a valuable critical function, and that this critical function is entitled to some degree of First Amendment protection."
