Amy Adams Valentino PR Stunt At Philip Seymour Hoffman Wake Upsets Mourners; Valentino Apoligizes; Adams Had Nothing to Do With It

Amy Adams was the unwitting victim of a Valentino publicity stunt at Philip Semour Hoffman's funeral. The actress, who recently broke down while talking about Hoffman on Inside The Actors' Studio, said the stunt was appalling. Valentino has since apologized and said Amy Adams knew nothing about their promotional email blast.

In a promotional email blast, Amy Adams' name was associated with a Valentino bag on the day of Philip Seymour Hoffman's wake. Hoffman died on February 2 after an apparent heroin overdose. The email blast turned Philip Seymour Hoffman's funeral into a promotional opportunity. Amy Adams was just one of many celebrities who paid tribute to Philip Seymour Hoffman at the funeral in New York City on Friday, Feb. 7.

Amy Adams Valentino email featured photos of Adams, who co-starred with Hoffman in "Doubt" and "The Master," attending the service. Valentino representative Upasna Khosla wrote, "We are pleased to announce Amy Adams carrying the Valentino Garavany Rockstud Duble bag from the Spring/Summer 2014 collection on Feb. 6 in New York."

According to the New York Post, The Valentino publicist who wrote the email misspelled the name of the bag, which is actually called the Valentino Garavani Rockstud Double bag.

When Amy appeared on Inside the Actors Studio on Feb. 5, Adams couldn't control her emotions when she was asked about Hoffman. A witness told Us magazine. "It hit a nerve with her. [She] was sobbing and couldn't finish most of her sentences. Amy talked about how he was the greatest actor she had worked with, and couldn't even tell stories about him without crying. She said to the audience of acting students 'I wish you all could have had the chance to work with him.'"

Amy Adams has taken the death of Hoffman very personally. The actress pulled out of additional television appearances.

Valentino released an apology, telling New York Post's Page Six, "Amy Adams is not a paid spokesperson for Valentino, and the suggestion she would use this moment to participate in a promotion is truly appalling."

A spokesperson for Valentino, Mona Swanson said "We sincerely regret releasing a photo to the media this morning of Amy Adams with a Valentino bag. We were not aware the photograph was taken while she was attending the wake of Philip Seymour Hoffman. It was an innocent mistake, and we apologize to Ms. Adams, who was not aware, or a part of, our P.R. efforts."
