Amanda Knox Inspired Movie Stars Kate Beckinsale, Cara Delevigne; Fictional Film Better Than 2011 Made-For-TV Hayden Panettiere Starrer?

An Amanda Knox-inspired fictional movie, titled "The Face of An Angel," has drawn serious star power after Kate Beckinsale and Cara Delevigne signed on as leads. Movie buffs are now asking if the upcoming film is better than the 2011 made-for-tv feature starring Hayden Panettiere.

The upcoming Amanda Knox-inspired movie was based on the book "Angel Face: Sex, Murder, and the Inside Story of Amanda Knox" by journalist Barbie Latza Nadeau, according to HollywoodLife.com.

Kate Beckinsale plays Simone Ford, an American journalist, who teams up with English filmmaker Thomas (Daniel Bruhl), to investigate a murder. Cara Delevigne will play Melanie who has a fling with Thomas, while Genevieve Gaunt will reportedly play the character inspired by Amanda Knox.

The Thomas character is loosely based on Rafaelle Sollecito, the former boyfriend of Amanda Knox and co-defendant of the case, Carla Delevigne will play the character inspired by murdered British student Meredith Kercher, HollywoodLife.com added.

The synopsis of the film, according to buzzsugar.com read:

"As his life unravels, he becomes increasingly disturbed by the dark medieval atmosphere surrounding the case and begins to fall into his own personal hell. Like Dante journeying through the Inferno in 'The Divine Comedy,' with Simone as his guide to the tragedy of the murder, he begins a relationship with student Melanie. This is a beautiful, unrequited love where Melanie provides solace to Thomas and acts as a guide to his own heart."

The film is not the first to be based on the life of Amanda Knox and the circumstances behind the 2007 murder.

In 2011, a made-for-TV movie titled "Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy" starred Hayden Panettiere as Amanda Knox, Paolo Romio as Raffaele Sollecito and Amanda Fernando Stevens as Meredith Kercher. The film has an average rating of 5.6 stars from IMDB.com.

Whether or not the Kate Berkinsale-starrer "The Face of an Angel" will be better than the 2011 film is still up in the air, although Variety revealed that the film gives equal limelight to Daniel Bruhl's character.
