Fred Armisen Will Lead Seth Meyers' ‘Late Night’ Band; Will He Have Time For ‘Portlandia’ While Working With Fellow ‘SNL’ Alum?

Fred Armisen will lead Seth Meyers's "Late Night" band, according to a Twitter post from Meyers himself; will Fred Armisen have time for "Portlandia" while he's working on his fellow "Saturday Night Live" alum's "Late Night" show?

Meyers announced today via Twitter that Fred Armisen has been named head of 8G Band.

"Fred will curate and lead the band, and continue to run it even when he's off shooting Portlandia," the "Late Night" host explained, and posted the picture above.

Thankfully, this means "Portlandia" won't be affected by Fred Armisen's new gig!

The Roots are following Jimmy Fallon over to his new job as host of "The Tonight Show," as he replaces Jay Leno. Seth Meyers is taking Fallon's place later this month.

Armisen and Meyers both appeared on "Saturday Night Live" before Armisen left the show at the end of last season. The comedian-musician returned to join Meyers on his final "SNL" on Feb. 1, the Los Angeles Times reports.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, "Portlandia," which is about to start its fourth season on IFC, has previously showcased Armisen's musical talents. In addition to performing on the series, he and co-star and co-creator Carrie Brownstein have performed songs while touring to promote "Portlandia."

Armisen was a drummer for the punk rock band Trenchmouth in the late 1980s. He also played background drums for The Blue Man Group in the mid-90s.

Meyers will have his first go at his "Late Night" hosting gig on Feb. 24, with fellow "SNL" alum and "Parks and Recreation" star Amy Poehler as his first guest.

"Portlandia" will begin airing on IFC on Feb. 27.
