Samsung Galaxy S5 Release Date: AnTuTu's Database Reveals 2 Versions Of The Device, Allegedly Aims To Tread The Same Path As The iPhone

After getting an alleged Samsung Galaxy S5 release date during the Korean tech giant's Unpacked press event at the MWC, a new rumor suggests the flagship device will have two variations.

In a report by GSM Arena, the popular benchmarking app AnTuTu has done it again as it revealed what appears to be two versions of the Galaxy S5, as they appeared in its database.

The first version has the model number SM-G900R4, and packs specs which we have been hearing and reading a lot these past few months. The Android-powered handset has a Snapdragon 800 SoC, with four Krait 400 cores running at 2.25GHz, Adreno 330 for extreme gaming and graphical performance, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage.

The database also revealed other specs which include a 16MP camera at the back and a 2MP front shooter, QHD or 2K (2560 x1440) display, and Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.

Meanwhile, the other version, with the model number SM-G900H, has a lower HD (720p) screen, octa-core Exynos 522 chipset clocked at 1.5GHz, 2GB of RAM, an ARM Mali-T628 GPU, and 16GB of internal memory. It runs on the same Android version and has the same camera resolution as the other variant.

From the AnTuTu database, it appears that model SM-G900H, while having lower specs, is able to beat both the SM-G900R4 as well as the Galaxy Note 3 in terms of overall score.

So what is Samsung trying to accomplish here? Whether the Korean manufacturer is planning to tread the same path as Apple's iPhones or not, this would certainly make the market a crowded place for flagships.
