Benedict Cumberbatch Talks Gay Sherlock Season 3 Scene, Girlfriend Janine: Watch DVD Release Featurette With Martin Freeman!

As "Sherlock" season 3 prepares for its DVD release, spoilers and featurettes featuring Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, and Steven Moffat.

During a particular "Sherlock" season 3 featurette, executive producers Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss discuss the controversial depiction of Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) seducing Mary Morsten's friend Janine as his girlfriend to solve a case.

"In the original story, he does become engaged to Milverton's maid," Gatiss explains according to MTV. "Heartlessly, which is what Steven has extrapolated into this thing."

"You think it's nice, he's become humanized," Moffat continues. "He knows how to do all that, but he exploits it to terrible ends."

"It's devastatingly cruel, what he does," adds Benedict Cumberbatch regarding the "Sherlock" season 3 storyline. "He inveigles his way back into her life and impresses her, and turns his ability on to a single focus."

In addition, "Sherlock" season 3 actors Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington also discuss the twist of Mary Morsten being an assassin.

“When I was filming Episodes 1 and 2, I didn’t know what her story was going to be,” says Amanda Abbington. “I’m playing it all very innocently, which helps. I would have played her differently had I known her backstory.”

But perhaps the most tantalizing spoiler regarding "Sherlock" season 3 is one that never made the final cut for broadcast.

Pink News reports that during the filming of episode two, "The Sign of Three," Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman venture into a gay club.

"Doing the drunk stuff was lovely but I regret there was one bit of it that was missing. There was the gay club scene. Why didn't that get in? We got mullered in a gay club and all these topless guys were going by," says Martin Freeman.

"I had no idea why we were there and what it was and why they didn't have their clothes on and then it dawned on me," adds Benedict Cumberbatch.

Sadly, the scene was cut due to time constraints.
