Samsung Galaxy S5 Release Date: Report Claims New Flagship Handset Will Have Bezel-Free Display, Fingerprint Sensor To Be Embedded In Screen

As the Samsung Galaxy S5 release date draws near, a new report could make the upcoming device a serious threat to competition.

According to a report by GSM Arena, media website The Korea Herald claims that the tech giant will release a bezel free display, probably for the Galaxy S5. The report says Samsung has been working on the technology since 2012 and it may have come into fruition in the past year.

Aside from the bezel-less display, which could be the first in the mobile industry, the upcoming Galaxy S5 would also have not just one but several fingerprint scanners.

And instead of having a separate button or area where the sensor is placed, the report said the sensors would be embedded within the device's screens and could be activated only at the bottom left and right sides.

The rumor makes perfect sense as a bezel-less display would be more difficult to navigate for people with smaller hands where accidental touches can be rampant. With the inclusion of the fingerprint sensor in the screen's edges, that problem may be addressed.

While this rumor certainly is promising, we still don't know how it would function or whether it would be practical at all. We will find out in the next couple of weeks.
