Greta Gerwig Cast as Lead `How I Met Your Mother’ Spinoff ‘How I Met Your Dad’

Greta Gerwig is coming to prime time. Greta was cast in the pilot of "How I Met Your Dad" the spinoff of the long-running series "How I Met Your Mother."

The "No Strings Attached" actress will play Sally in the comedy pilot written by Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, who created "How I Met Your Mother." According to Entertainment Weekly, Gerwig will play "a female Peter Pan" realizes she married the wrong man.

"How I Met Your Dad" will be kind of like "How I Met Your Mother" only told from a female point of view. Greta Gerwig will serve as a producer and will reportedly write for "How I Met Your Dad" as well as star. The pilot will be shot in Los Angeles. If the series is picked up by CBS, they will shoot it in New York.

Greta is best known as an indie actress and filmmaker. Gerwig's previous TV series appearance is doing a voiceover for the Adult Swim show "China, Il." Gerwig co-starred with Russell Brand in the remake of "Arthur" and 2010′s "Greenberg."

Greta Gerwig is best known for her role in "Frances Ha" which got her nominated for a Golden Glob. Carter Bays and Craig Thomas also write Up All Night's Emily Spivey.

There's no guarantee that How I Met Your Dad will make it past the pilot, but "How I Met Your Mother" is a long time hit.
