‘Homeland’ Season 4 Spoilers: Can Carrie ‘Move On’ After Brody’s Death? Who Will Replace Damian Lewis As The Male Lead?

"Homeland" season 4 will have to show if and how Carrie moves on after Brody's death; Alex Gansa revealed some spoilers in an interview about how the void left by Damian Lewis' exit might be filled in "Homeland" season 4.

TV Guide spoke to "Homeland" executive producer Alex Gansa about where season 4 will take Carrie following Brody's death, and if his absence will continue to have a lasting impact on her.

"I think the challenge of the next season is going to be to delicately weigh that," Gansa said in a spoiler chat. "At what point does she move on, if ever? Is she going to find some sort of emotional connection with another man, or is she going to subsume all of that into her career? These are all interesting questions. How significant is this relationship with Brody and is it one she can transcend?"

For the disbelievers out there, Gansa confirmed that Damian Lewis will not return as Brody in "Homeland" season 4.

"Brody is physically dead, undoubtedly. [But he's] spiritually alive in the fact that Carrie has a child," Gansa said.

TV Guide asked the producer if he will find someone to replace Lewis as the male lead next season, which is likely to premiere this fall.

"I don't think anyone can replace Brody or replace Damian's primary importance on the show. I think that is all going to squarely land on Claire Danes' shoulders now. It's really her show, and where Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) fits into that, where Fara (Nazanin Boniadi) fits into that, and where Saul (Mandy Patinkin) fits into that is going to be a process of discovery," Gansa said.

Executive producer Howard Gordon previously spoke to Zap2it about where "Homeland" season 4 will take its fans.

"Obviously it's going to require a fair bit of reinvention, but Alex [Gansa] and his team are inheriting a lot of players still on the board, most notably Carrie ," Gordon told Zap2it in a spoiler at the TCA 2014 winter press tour.

"I mean, we always conceived of the show really early as the axis of Carrie and Saul; [it] is so powerful, and those characters have so much more in them," Gordon added.

"Carrie, her maternity will obviously play into it."
