Sony Xperia Z2 Release Date, Rumors: Specs Of Upcoming Flagship Unveiled Incl. 5.2-inch Display, Quad-Core Chipset, Overhauled UI; Maybe Launched End Of Feb At MWC

Sony Xperia Z2 release date, rumors: Specs of Sony’s next flagship may have a completely overhauled user interface, a 5.2-inch display and as expected, a quad-core chipset. According to reports, this maybe launched by the end of February at the 2014 Mobile World Congress.

Also dubbed as Sony Xperia “Sirius,” a leaked video showing the device shows numerous changes in the user interface of Xperia, reports NDTV. Some of the updates include the Xperia UI being skinned on top of Android 4.4 KitKat. New features to be included in the Xperia Z2 include 4K recording, Timeshift video, smart backlight control, presence of two home launchers, and USB DAC audio support.

According to an earlier rumor that the International Business Times reported, one of the key specs of this new flagship will be its Snapdragon 805 chipset. It is also expected to have 3GB of RAM and 20.7 megapixel Sony G lens with Android 4.4 KitKat. Battery power for the Sony Xperia Z2 is 3,500 mAh. The Sony Xperia Z2 may have a 5.2-inch display.

The "Sirius" name of Sony Xperia Z2 and its potential release date has been revealed by infamous gadget leaker @evleaks in a tweet. “Sony Sirius (2014 flagship) tipped for MWC debut: 5.2-inch display, MSM8974AB SoC, and a home on Verizon in the US,” says a tweet by EVLeaks.

Tech Radar noted, who said that the chipset of the device will be a Snapdragon 800 processor, says that the rumored specs of the Sony Xperia Z2 is a moderate upgrade from the Sony Xperia Z1.

Sony has already launched two new devices this year, with the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact. The latter seems to be the highly-anticipated Sony Xperia Z1 Mini which a lot of tech publications have discussed late 2013.

There were earlier rumors that the new flagship will appear at the CES 2014, which wasn’t the case since the event came and left without an appearance of the rumored handset.
