Upcoming Android Phones 2014: Chinese Maker Xiaomi Expands Market Coverage As It Holds Singapore Event On Feb. 21, To Announce Affordable Midrange Handset

Xiaomi is a known manufacturer of cheap upcoming Android phones for 2014, and it looks like it now seeks to expand its market with its first device launch event outside of China.

According to a report by The Next Web, Chinese mobile phone manufacturer Xiaomi will be holding its very first device launch event outside of its mother country.

Instead, its venue would be Singapore, where it would launch a new midrange handset. Dubbed as the Redmi, this Android-powered device packs midrange specs which include a 4.7-inch IPS display, a quad-core CPU clocked at 1.5GHz, and its very own MIUI version.

The phone was originally named the HongMi, and has already been popular in China for the past few months. However, because Singapore is an English-speaking country, Xiaomi changed its name to Redmi which it claims is the English version.

Once the Redmi goes official, it is reported to cost SG$169 or around US$130, which is pretty cheap for a phone with these specs.
