Katherine Heigl and Alexis Bledel Come Out to Their Families as Lesbian Couple; Heigl Tells Twitter New Indie Film Needs Cash Infusion

Katherine Heigl and Alexis Bledel are almost finished with their first on-screen coupling.  Bledel, who played Rory Gilmore on "The Gilmore Girls" and the former "Grey's Anatomy" star play lesbian lovers who are getting ready to tie the knot in an upcoming indie film. But the film needs cash to get finished. Now we know what's been keeping Heigl up at night doing those NyQuil commercials.

Katherine Heigl took to Twitter to bring bring attention for the upcoming indie comedy "Jenny's Wedding." Heigl needs to raise $150,000 by March 28 to finish the film. Heigl is hard at work raising money for writer-director Mary Agnes Donoghue's film through a fundraising campaign on Indiegogo. A "Veronica Mars" movie was recently funded by a Kickstarter campaign.

Heigl plays a lesbian who is out to everyone but her family. Her parents think Alexis Bledel is playing her roommate. Tom Wilkinson and Linda Emond play Heigl's parents. Now that the couple wants to get married, Heigl wants to let them know she's a lesbian. Grace Gummer also appears in Jenny's Wedding.

Heigl said "This film is about a young woman's journey to live the life that is right for her and live it proudly. It is a project that I'm so passionate about and grateful to be a part of."

The lesbian love scene in the film might be unexpected for Izzie Stevens and Rory Gilmore fans, but Heigl thinks the film will be a welcome departure.

Heigl took to Twitter to say "Jenny's Wedding is a movie I'm so proud to be a part of. Love the story and the characters. Hope you will too!"

She added "The producers are just as passionate about @jennys_wedding as I am, but need your help to make it happen" in a later tweet.

Heigl plays Jenny. Heigl says the film "is about her journey with her family, and revealing this part of herself that she's kept hidden for so long."

Alexis Bledel plays Kitty.

Katherine Heigl hasn't been seen on screen for a while, which has led to speculation that Katherine and her manager-mom Nancy Heigl are trouble on the set. The director seems to have no such problems.

Filmmaker Michelle Manning said "Jenny's Wedding has been a true labor of love for all involved in the production. The money we're hoping to raise through Indiegogo will ensure that we are able to make the most beautiful film possible."

The Indiegogo site says "The money we raise will allow us to elevate our post-production to the highest level," the crowdfunding site reads.

"We shot a beautiful movie. We'd like to keep post-production to that same standard. Many wonderful indie movies disappear because the quality of work in post-production fails them. The money raised will go towards post-production costs, such as editing, color correction, ADR, sound mixing, etc., hiring a music supervisor and licensing music, hiring a composer and film festival expenses."
