Katy Perry and John Mayer Break Up As a Couple, Not As Artists; It Always Seemed Like a Dark Horse Relationship Race

Katy Perry and John Mayer broke up. Again. John Mayer and Katy Perry's relationship always seemed like a dark horse candidate in a race you wanted to see finish. But a John Mayer and Katy Perry breakup doesn't mean they'll stop collaborating.

It seems like just yesterday that we were getting reports that Katy Perry and John Mayer were planning to tie the knot in June. Earlier this month, Katy Perry, the "Roar" singer was seen with a ring on her engagement finger earlier. That set off sparks that Katy Perry would be getting married again. But E! News sources say John Mayer and Katey split "within the last few days."

Katy Perry, 29, and John Mayer, 36, engagement rumors started when Katy was spotted wearing a ring on her left ring finger at the EMAs in Nov. 2013 and of course after they went out for dinner on Valentine's Day.

The last time Katy and John were seen together was on Feb. 16 in Hollywood. Perry and Mayer were reported to be on a date.

Katy Perry told Rolling Stone magazine that she thought John Mayer is a "genius." Perry told E! News, "I've been a fan of John's for years before I got to actually kiss him."

So, we don't have to rule out further collaborations. Katy said "I've been such a fan, I think he's so incredibly talented and gifted and a genius songwriter. So to be a part of anything he was doing was just natural."

Katy and John Mayer have been dating around 18 months. Wedding plans were apparently moving forward. It was reported that they already asked Katy Perry's father, Keith Hudson, to officiate the wedding.

A source told Grazia magazine: "They'd love a June wedding. They want to get married at the San Ysidro Ranch in Katy's home town of Santa Barbara."
