Bette Midler Makes Her Academy Awards Debut This Sunday; The Divine Miss M Has Won Oscars, But Hasn't Sung For Him

Bette Midler hits the main stage at the Academy Awards for the first time this year. Also performing this year are Irish rock band U2, who will perform their track "Ordinary Love," which is nominated for Best Original Song.The Oscars will be hosted by Ellen DeGeneres.


Bette Midler make her performance debut at the Oscars this year. It's been a long time coming. Bette Midler started in New York's bathouses, rose to be a premiere actress and singer and serenaded Johnny Carson on his last broadcast of "The Tonight Show."


The Academy confirmed that Bette Midler, who has been nominated for best actress Oscar twice, for her roles in "The Rose" in 1979 and "For the Boys" in 1991, will sing at the Academy Awards.

This will be the first time in Bette Midler's five-decade long career that she's played the Oscars on the big night.


Midler took to Twitter to take requests, tweeting, "Now that the news is out, what shall I sing at this years #Oscars?"


The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Midler's booking yesterday but the show's producers haven't given any clues as far as what song Midler will perform.


Pharrell Williams and Idina Menzel will also perform this year. Williams will sing "Happy," which was nominated for an Oscar for the film "Despicable Me." Menzel will sing "Let it Go" from Disney's "Frozen."


Bette, who Tom Waits called "Colossal" after duetting with her on "I never talk to Strangers" from his "Foreign Affairs" album, yeah, I'll push his, if you're reading this you already have hers, earned a lot of Grammy, all the way back to her 1972 debut album, "The Divine Miss M."


 ABC will broadcast the show live March 2 in Los Angeles.
