This will be the third and final meeting pitting the 31-22-6 L.A. Kings vs the Colorado Avalanche (37-16-5). Both games ended not in regulation. In the first showdown, the Avs won 1-0 in overtime. Both teams sit in third place of their respective divisions in the Western Conference as the push for the postseason truly begins.

Colorado will have to do it without forward Alex Tanguay for the rest of the season. He underwent hip surgery and played in only 16 games in his first season back in Colorado. The Avalanche went 15-1-0 with him in the lineup. But with Matt Duchene, fresh off winning gold for Canada in Sochi, headlining a group of five forwards with at least 40 points, there's no lack of depth.

"I think we've gotten some good work done in these first few days of practice," goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere said in the Denver Post. "We've been working hard and not just trying to get in shape. We have worked on specific parts of our game, and hopefully that will make us well prepared to play Wednesday night."

L.A. struggled in its last 10 games before the break, going 2-8 in that stretch.

"We've been on a terrible run here in the last month, so we're really happy to get this win," Regehr said. "It was a very important game for us. Now we can enjoy the break, then come back and get to work."

Not every Los Angeles player got to rest during the break, but each Olympian will have at least two days off prior to this contest.

"This team has been struggling and we're trying to find a way to break through," said Brown, the Kings' captain. "... We have a good team here. It's just a matter of fighting our way through it."
