Coming down the final stretch, the Maple Leafs find themselves within striking distance of the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference. They are getting healthier than they were in the beginning of the season. Center Dave Bolland is nearing a return and the team's Olympians, Phil Kessel, James van Riemsdyk and Nikolai Kulemin, are healthy and ready for the stretch run, according to ESPN.com.

"What we've tried to do is simulate a little bit of a mini-training camp here and try to get our players back in top form that we can hit the ice playing the way we left the ice," Carlyle told The Canadian Press.

The Islanders will be without their star player Jon Taveres for the rest of the season as he got hurt during the Olympics. Tavares is third in the NHL with 66 points (24 goals, 42 assists), but the Isles hope of making a late push into the playoffs will get even harder.

"Obviously we know how important he is to our hockey club," coach Jack Capuano told ESPN.com. "When you talk about a most valuable player to your team, the way that we play and the success we've had, he is a big part of that."

New York called up Ryan Strome, Anders Lee and Mike Halmo from Bridgeport of the AHL to add forward help to try and replace Taveres. . The trio combined for 127 points while making up the affiliate's top line and will try to add some offensive life to a New York team that was held to one or two goals in five straight games before the break, according to ESPN.com.

"You can't replace a guy like (Tavares), but everyone has an opportunity to pick up the slack," forward Colin McDonald told the Islanders' official website. "Hopefully guys are looking forward to it."
