Samsung Galaxy S5 Release Date: New Flagship Device's Fingerprint Scanner Can Be Used By 3rd Party Apps, PayPal First On The List, But Is It Safe?

Samsung Galaxy S5 release date: After its announcement on Monday at the MWC 2014 in Barcelona, people found the answers for the questions they have been asking for the past months.

Of course the design is far from pretty or revolutionary, so we won't make any arguments there. On the other hand, the fingerprint scanner embedded in the home button is pretty interesting, just like when the iPhone 5s first showed its own.

However, while the scanner can be used for unlocking the phone, a report says even third-party apps can use it in making things 'secure.

According to a report by GSM Arena, Samsung released a Galaxy S5 development kit to app developers which plan to use Pass API for their apps' functions.

The report mentions that PayPal is the first third-party developer to use the feature in order to require a fingerprint access whenever someone pays or does something with his PayPal account.

Surely, more developers will try to use this feature in making their applications unique and future-proof. However, allowing developers to get a hand on someone else's personal information can be a very risky thing to do.

Can Samsung maintain it to be secure and prevent hacks? We'll see in the coming months.
