Stephen King ‘The Stand’ Movie Adaptation Director Named; Josh Boone, From Fault In Our Stars, To Rewrite And Direct The Book’s Film Version

Josh Boone, the young director from Virginia Beach, made headlines late last year and this 2014 for landing the director job for one of the most anticipated films this year, The Fault in Our Stars which is based on John Green's novel of the same name. The movie, which will hit the big screen on June 6, is the second of Boone, having directed first Stuck In Love starring Jennifer Connelly and Greg Kinnear.

At the age of 35, it seems that Boone should get used to handling major projects as he lands another big directorship job, the movie adaptation of Stephen King novel The Stand.

The Hollywood Reporter wrote that "Josh Boone is in early talks to direct The Stand, the adaptation of Stephen King's epic novel being made by Warner Bros. and CBS Films."

The companies previously had Scott Cooper on board to direct (as well as write) but he left the project in November over creative issues. Before that, Ben Affleck and David Yates were attached as directors.

Jimmy Miller and Roy Lee are producing the project.

Boone isn't a name yet but may have awareness among a surprising demo: teens. The writer-director is in post on The Fault In Our Stars, Fox 2000's adaptation of the mega-popular YA novel by John Green.

Boone and King have unforgettable connections. Aside from the horror novel author's appearance in the director's Stuck In Love, the two first met when Boone wrote a letter to King to express his love for the latter's novel. The director talked about how he always sneaks from his parents just to read King's books instead of Christian pieces.

The short of it is that my parents were born-again Baptists and I wasn't allowed to read Stephen King. I had to rip the covers off of Christian books and glue them to Stephen King books, so that I could read them. I remember reading "The Stand" under my bed when I was 12, and I hid the book in the box springs under my bed, and my mom found it and burned it in the fireplace.

I wrote him a letter when I was 12, just to tell him how much I loved his books and how much I wanted to be a writer when I grew up and that he was my idol. I sent him a couple books, hoping that he'd sign them. I came home from school one day and my dad said, "There's a box here from Stephen King."
