Janeane Garofalo Is Coming to Prime Time; Will Join House’s Lisa Edelstein on Bravo’s First Scripted Series `Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce’

Janeane Garafolo is ready for prime time. The former member of the Not Ready for Prime Time cast of Saturday Night Live will play in Bravo's "Girlfiends Guide to Divorce."

Stand-up comedian, Janeane Garofalo is joining Lisa Edelstein, from the TV series "House," to star in Bravo's first scripted series. Both Edelstein and Garofalo guest starred on the 90s classic sitcom, "Seinfeld." Lisa Edelstein as Karen Jennifer Coolidge in the episode "The Masseuse") And Garafolo's character was briefly engaged to Jerry, but they were too similar. ("This is what I've been looking for all my life ... Me.")

After years of trying to get into the scripted game, Bravo picked up 13 episodes of "Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce," from Buffy the Vampire Slayer writer Marti Noxon.

Bravo is best known for its reality TV shows like "Real Housewives" so "Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce" is a departure.

"House" star Lisa Edelstein will lead the cast. "Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce" will also star Janeane Garofalo, best known for her roles in "The Larry Sanders Show," "Copland" and her appearances on "Real Time" with Bill Maher and Saturday Night Live.

Marti Noxon said "Everybody knows this was all an elaborate scheme to get myself on 'Watch What Happens Live!' Seriously, I can't thank everyone enough at Bravo and Universal Cable Productions for making Girlfriends' something special. I am confident that Lisa is going to be TV's next girl crush; she's certainly mine."

"Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce" is based on Vicko Lovine's best-selling "Girlfriends' Guide" book series. Edelstein will play self-help book writer Abby, who hides the fact that she's separated from her husband. Abby navigates life as a single woman in her 40s and takes advice from her divorced friends, instead of her married ones.

Janeane Garofalo, who also played on "24," will play a divorcee named Lyla. She's a Hollywood lawyer. Beau Garrett, who was on "Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior," will play another recent divorcee named Phoebe, who used to be a model. The pilot has Paul Adelstein of "Private Practice" as Abby's husband in the pilot. Carrie Fisher from "Star Wars" will make a cameo as Abby's book editor.

In a statement, Bravo and Oxygen Media President  Frances Berwick, said "From the minute we saw this script, we felt this was really on brand for Bravo - it's got lots of humor, lots of fun, and it's incredibly stylish. More than anything, this is a real passion project for Marti who is a big Bravo fan."

Adam Brooks will direct the pilot.
