Pearl Jam’s Ex-Manager Busted for Embezzlement; Sentenced to 14 Months in Prison for Stealing From Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam's former manager sentenced to prison for theft.

Rickey  Goodrich, Pearl Jam's former financial manager, used his position with the Seattle grunge band to steal $380,000.

At a court hearing in Washington on Friday, Pearl Jam's manager was sentenced to 14 months in prison.

Pearl Jam Touring Co. hired Goodman in 2005. He was named chief financial officer for Curtis Inc., the band's management company.

During the four years he spent managing Pearl Jam's money, Goodrich stole $380,000 from the band's coffers to pay his own debts. Goodrich used Pearl Jam's credit cards to pay for personal expenses. He bought wine and put family vacations on Pearl Jam's tab. Goodrich used funds from Curtis Inc. to make repeated payments to his wife's American Express account. Goodrich was fired in September 2010.

According to The Seattle Times, Superior Court Judge Roger Rogoff agreed to allow Rickey Goodrich to remain free for two weeks to get his financial affairs in order. Pearl Jam's manager is set to return to court in two weeks for formal sentencing.

Judge Roger Rogoff said "There is nothing more devastation to an organization than someone who takes money from the inside."

Goodman's lawyer unsuccessfully argued that his client was a first-time offender and deserved probation.

According to the King County Prosecuting Attorney's office, 55-year-old Goodman pled guilty to six counts of first-degree theft in December. Goodman admitted that he used company accounts on a variety of other non-business related items. Goodrich used the company credit card on Amazon.com, iTunes, hotels and restaurant.

Goodman was removed from his position as tour accountant in 2009. But in 2010, another $15,000 payment in "road cash" that Goodrich claimed was split among the five members of Pearl Jam went missing. When the band's lead guitarist said he never received the money, Goodrich changed his story and said $15,000 was used to pay for crew bonuses, but the crew members said they never got the money.
