Nokia Lumia 1520 Review: Flagship Phablet Is Faster Than Samsung's Galaxy S5 In AnTuTu Benchmark, New High-End Lumias Also Expected To Leave Competitors In The Dust

Nokia Lumia 1520 review: Launched in October, the Nokia Lumia 1520 is definitely the top Windows Phone device today. However, if we cross the bridge into the Android realm, would it stand a chance against, say the Samsung Galaxy S5?

Well, it did not only stand a chance, but actually beat the Galaxy S5 in a popular benchmarking app.

According to GSM Arena, the Lumia 1520 powered with a Snapdragon 800 gained a higher score than the Galaxy S5 which boasts an improved Snapdragon 801 chipset. And the results showed almost a 6 percent difference between the two flagships from different platforms.

Meanwhile, the Sony Xperia Z1, which is also fresh from its announcement at MWC 2014, is ranked below the Galaxy S5.

The results are pretty strange given that both the Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2 have improved versions of the Qualcomm-made chipset. Both devices also have higher-clocked cores and Adreno 330 GPUs.

In the report, this leads us to the assumption that the DIrect3D 9_3 of the Windows Phone-powered Lumia 1520 runs smoother than Android's OpenGL ES 2.0.

Interestingly, all of Nokia's upcoming high-end devices would feature similar or higher chipsets than the Lumia 1520. As a result, we can expect all upcoming Lumias to do better than their Android counterparts in benchmarks.
