Top Android Phones 2014: Sony Xperia Z2 Vs. Samsung Galaxy S5 - Which Giant Is The Better Smartphone?

Top Android phones 2014: Last week we finally see the Sony Xperia Z2 and the Samsung Galaxy S5 unveiled at the MWC in Barcelona. In case you have been waiting for these two devices for months and you are now wondering which one to get, then here is a quick rundown of their specs and features.

Sony Xperia Z2

As usual, Sony has unleashed a gorgeously-designed handset, and the fact that it borrowed heavily from its precessor is not that bad. There are also far less side bezels this time than last year's model, though the top and bottom bezels are an entirely different issue. On board, nothing has changed much and just a few enhancements here and there.

The Sony Xperia Z2 packs a 5-inch Triluminous display, quad-core Snapdragon 801 chipset, 3GB of RAM and a 20.7MP primary camera that has eventually become a staple resolution for the flagship devices. The phone also runs on Android 4.4 Kitkat out of the box, and has a 16GB of internal memory and a microSD card slot.

Samsung Galaxy S5

A lot of people, and I say a lot, were disappointed when they saw the Galaxy S5's design, with all of those enticing rumors and alleged press images suddenly forgotten. However, nothing can change the fact that the device is still a great-looking phone, considering the design of its precessors. Though I personally would have liked it more if Samsung did not opt for the dotted design which looked a lot more like a manufacturing defect than a real design.

While the design of the Galaxy S5 is far from impressive, the specs inside are pretty decent and flagship-material. The Samsung device boasts a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with the same 1080p resolution as the Xperia Z2, but looks far better. It is also a disappointment that the only change in chipset is the overlocked Snapdragon 801 processor, while nothing has changed as far as RAM is concerned.

Other specs also include a 16MP camera, 16 or 32GB of internal memory, a microSD card slot, and Android KitKat.

Conclusion

So what can we say about these two? Both are higher spec'd compared to their predecessors, but they just don't find the mark in the hearts of Android geeks around the world. But in a rather unsurprising revelation, the Galaxy S5 has already taken the upper hand against the Xperia Z2 as far as pre-orders are concerned. So while the new Samsung flagship looks a bit disappointing, it is clear that people still want a Galaxy smartphone.
