‘Fight Club’ Sequel: Chuck Palahniuk Teases The Fight Club Sequel In Graphic Novel Form! Tyler Durden Re-Emerges!

The modern cult-classic movie "Fight Club" will have a sequel. Author Chuck Palahniuk has confirmed that he is interested in making a graphic novel on the return of Tyler Durden.

After the disastrous events at the end of "Fight Club," what would precipitate the return of 'the inner beast?' Wasn't that somewhat of a happy ending with Jack and Marla amidst the chaos?

Palahniuk gives a few clarifications. The "Damned" author spoke with Hustler magazine:

"The sequel will be told from the-- at first-- submerged perspective of Tyler Durden as he observes the day-to-day tedium of the narrator's life.  Because 20th Century-Fox created the convention of calling the protagonist Jack, I'm calling him Cornelius.  He's living a compromised life with a failing marriage, unsure about his passion for his wife.  The typical midlife bullshit.  Likewise, Marla is unsatisfied and dreams of accessing the wild man she'd once fallen in love with.  She tampers with the small pharmacy of drugs that her husband needs to suppress Tyler, and-- go figure-- Tyler reemerges to terrorize their lives."

"The sequel has been percolating in my mind for years.  My only worry is about presenting it in the form of a graphic novel.  The medium shapes the messages, and I'll be relearning how to tell stories.  My tendency is to hold the entire plot in my mind until I'm afraid of forgetting it.  Once I start writing, I can't stop.  That feverish, ill-fed, exhausting stint of writing in the only part of the process that I fear."

Of course, Tyler Durden can come back, as his death was purely figurative. When Jack-or Cornelius, falls back into the trap that Tyler dragged him from, Durden must re-emerge.

A more recent update dated January 24, 2014 from The Cult - a blog dedicated to Chuck Palahniuk, quotes an email from the author himself regarding the progress of the project. It reads:

"The graphic novel "script" for the Fight Club sequel has gone off to the writer Matt Fraction and to an unnamed publisher for review.  Matt writes his own series, called "Sex Criminals" and does very well.  He's been my go-to advisor about format and other considerations of graphic scripts.  I'll be choosing an illustrator based on their response to the script.  The sequel will consist of seven issues, totally more than 210 pages.  Fingers crossed.  - Chuck"

There is no definite time-table yet, but it is difficult to contain the anticipation. Tyler Durden returns, and Fight Club is back-but we shouldn't talk about it.
