'Captain America 3' Release Date Takes On 'Batman Vs Superman?' Marvel Will Not Back Down From Warner/DC Challenge!

As 'Batman Vs Superman' delayed its release date to May 6, 2016, it comes face-to-face with an unannounced Marvel movie. The two biggest superheroes in the world have issued a challenge.

Challenge accepted! Marvel President Kevin Feige has been asked about this issue during the "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" junket and whether Marvel will move its release date to avoid a head on collision.

From Slashfilm, Feige's bold reply: "We're certainly keeping the date there and we'll announce what that movie is, I assume, in the next few months."

On the suggestion that the announcement will be made at the next Comic-con: "That would be great, I'd love nothing more than to be able to announce them all there. But if it's ready beforehand, we'll probably do it beforehand. If it's not ready then, we'll do it after."

Cool enough, as there are a lot of things to consider. Suffice to say, Marvel was affected by the challenge. There is no way for us to determine whether they actually made revisions-especially since the movie was not announced yet.

But Screenrant believes that "Captain America 2" is the best occasion to address this question, since the movie they will pit against "Batman Vs Superman" could be "Captain America 3."

How did they come up with this assumption? From Screenrant: "At the time of the BvS delay we suspected that the May 2016 release would be for Thor 3, since we know the first film (out of two Marvel Studios releases) each year going forward will be for a sequel to an established property, with the second release date used to launch a new property. In both Phase 1 and 2, Thor preceded Captain America on the release schedule (and earned more money) but in Phase 3, things could be different depending on how The Winter Soldier performs at the box office.

With Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Anthony and Joe Russo signing on to direct and help craft the story for Captain America 3 however, and them revealing during the junket that it would shoot in 2015, that changes things."

At first, "Thor 3" made a lot of sense. "Avengers 3" would be too early, and "Ant-Man" is the other 2015 film. Thus, it should be followed by a sequel. "Thor" was perceived as the stronger franchise and it was shown ahead of "Captain America 2."

But the realities of movie making caught up with Thor 3. While "Captain America" will retain its directors, Thor has lost Alan Taylor, and will probably hire its third director in as many films. The Russo brothers will simply continue the Winter Soldier plot, taking some of the "Avengers 2" events into consideration while "Thor" will have a completely new arc.

Of course, that is still purely speculation and we still have to wait for the official announcement at Comic-con or wherever.

The big question for now: If it is indeed "Captain America 3" vs "Batman Vs Superman," which movie will you watch on May 6, 2016?
