Nexus 8 Release Date: Specs Of Much Rumored Android Tablet Of 2014 May Include Android 4.5 Lollipop Features Plus Intel’s Moorefield 64-bit Processor; July 2014 Unveiling Possible; Nexus 7 Obsolete So

Nexus 8 release date: Specs of the Nexus 8, probably the most rumored upcoming Android tablet for 2014 may include the also rumored and upcoming Android 4.5 Lollipop. The name “Lollipop” is also a speculation and follows the alphabetical progression present in Google mobile OS updates. Earlier Android OS includes Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, and the current is KitKat.

AndroidPit guesses that the Nexus 8 may have a summer launch and many are suggesting that July 2014 could be a possible date. It could also be due to the unveiling of the Intel Moorefield 64-bit processor, which reports are suggesting will also be powering the Nexus 8.

The possible launch of the Nexus 8 only confirms speculations that the Nexus 7 maybe obsolete soon in favor of the 8-inch device, as competition in the field of 7-inch tablets are becoming greater.

In a report by BGR, it noted that Intel unveiled the 64-bit quad-core Atom “Moorefield” processor that could be used in the very near future, in smartphones and tablets. It has been said that it will be available “in the second half of the year,” thus prompting the July date for the Nexus 8 unveiling. The Moorefield processors may go up to 2.3GHz and would feature an “enhanced GPU and support for faster memory.” The chipset will also support Intel’s own 2014 LTE platform that would be able to deliver LTE-Advanced data speeds.

In terms of graphics processor, the Nexus 8 may come with PowerVR G6430 GPU. The chipset is said to be 20 times faster than Series 5 models and five times more efficient, according to TuttoAndroia.

BGR reports that Intel has announced at the Mobile World Congress that it has “multiyear agreements with Lenovo, Asus, Dell and Foxconn,” to “expand the availability of tablets and smartphones with Intel Atom processors and communication platforms.” Two of the companies have been rumored to be working with Google to develop the Nexus 8. Asus was the maker of the first two Nexus 7 tablet. HTC is also rumored to be a potential maker of a high-end Nexus tablet this year.

Though all these rumors are in full swing, there are reports saying that Google and Intel maybe at odds with each other when it comes to dual booting Android/Windows devices, BGR noted. An earlier story suggested that Google is trying to block Asus from such gadgets, a move that would benefit Intel in case more original equipment manufacturers create such units.
