‘Flappy Bird’ Addiction: Minnesota Timberwolves Confess They Play Viral Game In Locker Room! Is That Why They Won't Make The Playoffs?

The Minnesota Timberwolves are having a disappointing season. The players have found a new coping mechanism in "Flappy Bird."

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Chase Budinger recently doubled his career high score. Yet, it was not on ESPN or even the local news!

ESPN True Cities finally caught wind of the event, and Budinger shared his experience: "When I was playing, I was getting close to my other high and once I finally beat it by 10 or something, then I was able to relax a little bit and just keep going. Once you're past it, the pressure goes away. The pressure is in getting close."

Budinger had an insane 327 points-in Flappy Bird.

It's a real thing among the Timberwolves-their way to relieve stress in the locker room. It's the Wolves' Flappy Bird League. Ronny Turiaf is the de facto commissioner and is credited with introducing the game. "Ricky [Rubio] is second. He has 187, and I'm third. I got 113."

Turiaf will not lack in effort and focus, though: "Two days ago I was at 112 and one of my friends texted me and he made me lose. So I told him that right now I'm not very happy with my friendship with him."

The reigning MVP, Budinger, gives his teammates some tips in order to improve: "All you do is tap the screen. The bird flaps and you gotta go through tunnels. The way to do best at that game is you need to be somewhere alone and quiet. I think on the plane is a good time to play. Or on the bus, even though you're moving a little bit."

The league has yet to issue technical fouls as yet, but they do have a committee: Ricky Rubio, the Wolves' star point guard from Spain confesses: "I tried to cheat and take a picture from the Internet, but they wouldn't believe it. I just have to practice. It's fun when everybody's on the same page and playing and competing against each other."

If they don't make the playoffs, Minnesota can blame Dong Nguyen. There's no word on their All-star player Kevin Love's score. Perhaps he's more of an Angry Birds guy.
