Microsoft Surface 2 Release Date: LTE Version of 2nd Gen Windows RT Tablet Coming To AT&T On April 2014; May Launch W/ Windows Phone 8.1

Microsoft Surface 2 release date: The LTE version of the Microsoft Surface 2 is expected to be launch next month at AT&T, according to reports. The new variant of the Windows RT tablet was announced last year during the Reddit AMA, but there was no definite launch date provided.

Tom’s Hardware, a tech news site, says that sources have pointed to a April 2014 release date for the Surface 2 LTE. It’s the same month that Microsoft is expected to release the Windows Phone 8.1. Chatter and rumors also suggest that the company may also launch the Microsoft Mini on the same month.

The tech news site indicated that customers may likely see a second Windows 8.1 update this fall. The huge release, however, is expected April 2015 when the Redmond tech giant introduces the “Threshold” launches including Windows 9, Windows Phone 9, the big Xbox One and a unified store. All these, however, are rumors and must be taken with a grain of salt.

Aside from the new Microsoft Surface 2 LTE, a new Microsoft Surface Power Cover is also expected to be launched. The new accessory will cost $199 and would measure 9.75 mm thin, weigh 0.55 pounds, and is compatible with the Surface 2, Surface Pro, and Surface Pro 2. The unit will also connect with a magnetic interface and feature an accelerometer. Microsoft Surface Power cover will only be available in one color, which is black. It will shipped on March 19.

A description of the Microsoft Surface Power Cover:

"The Power Cover has all the standard features of a classic QWERTY keyboard—a full row of Function keys (F1-F12), Windows shortcut keys, media controls, and a trackpad make it easy to navigate your Surface without taking your hands off the keyboard," reads the product page. "An ultra-thin trackpad lets you control the cursor with your fingertip."
