Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson Announces New Album and Tour; Thick As a Brick’s Gerald Bostock Makes His Third Jethro Tull Appearance; Prog Challenge (Video)

Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson announced that his new album will the third outing for the fictitious former child prodigy Gerald Bostock.

Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson announced that his new studio album Homo Erraticus will be released in April 2014. Homo Erraticus is the third album to feature Gerald Bostock, the 12-year-old made-up prodigy who allegedly wrote the words to 1972′s classic Jethro Tull album "Thick As A Brick," and then came back to write Ian Anderson's Thick As A Brick 2 in 2012.

Ian Anderson founded Jethro Tull in 1967 out of the remains of the John Evans Smash. Jethro Tull started as part of the British Blues explosion, mixing Jazz influences like Roland Kirk into their flute-centered blues.Jethro Tull then added Bach to the mix and had a top of the pops hit in 5/4 time. How are you supposed to dance to that? They did. Classic albums like "Aqualung" and "War Child" continue to contribute to classic rock stations.

Ian says the new album will be Folk-Prog-Metal, featuring heavier guitars, less acoustic sounds and more and more flute.

Don't knock the flute. It is a heavy metal instrument and helped Jethro Tull beat Metallica for the 1989 Grammy for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance.

Ian said "After winning the Grammy for best "Hard Rock/Metal" album back in 1988, this seems like an opportunity to justify that strange and misplaced accolade with a new album to celebrate the more forceful, full-on rock credentials which are found in many of my songs over the last 45 years. It's not an end to the acoustic and gentler moments but more of an emphasis on the louder aggressive flute style which marked me out from the earliest days of Jethro Tull."

Ian Anderson also announced a 2014 UK tour. The tour will start in the UK in late April.

Homo Erraticus will be released on April 14 in the UK and Europe and on April 15 in North America.

Ian Anderson's current backing lineup includes Florian Opahle on electric guitar, Scott Hammond on drums, John O'Hara on keyboards, David Goodier on bass and Ryan O'Donnell on additional vocals and on-stage support. Whether or not they will be giving prostate exams on stage remains to be seen.
