Scarlett Johansson on Woody Allen Scandal: Scarlett Johansson Tries To Back Off Woody Allen Sex Scandal, But Gets New Backlash

Scarlett Johansson on Woody Allen Scandal:  Scarlett Johansson broke her silence over the Woody Allen sex scandal. The actress who was discovered by Woody Allen, but who hasn't worked with him in years, tried to back off from the scandal after a letter from Dylan Farrow named peers like Alec Baldwin and Cate Blanchett.

Dylan Farrow wrote the open letter in the New York Times on February 11 that claimed she was sexually abused by Woody Allen, her adoptive. Woody Allen immediately wrote an essay denying the allegations.

Farrow named Scarlett Johansson, Cate Blanchett, Emma Stone, and Alec Baldwin for continuing to work with the director in spite of the allegations.

Cate Blanchett and Alec Baldwin have both made statements.

In a recent interview Scarlett Johansson tried to distance herself from the Woody Allen child abuse scandal, but wound up inadvertently issuing an attack on Woody Allen's step-daughter Dylan Farrow.

Farrow's letter named Scarlett Johansson as well as other actors who worked with Woody Allen, like Louis CK. Some the actors who worked with Woody Allen or who were named in the letter have responded.

Dylan Farrow's open letter included the plea "What if it had been your child, Cate Blanchett? Louis CK? Alec Baldwin? What if it had been you, Emma Stone? Or you, Scarlett Johansson?"

Scarlett Johansson, who was directed by Woody Allen in such films as Match Point, talked to The Guardian in a new interview. Scarlett Johansson said "I think it's irresponsible to take a bunch of actors that will have a Google alert on and to suddenly throw their name into a situation that none of us could possibly knowingly comment on. That just feels irresponsible to me."

Farrow mentioned the actors in an attempt to implore them to weigh the uncertainty of the situation.

Scarlett continued, "I'm unaware that there's been a backlash. I think he'll continue to know what he knows about the situation, and I'm sure the other people involved have their own experience with it. It's not like this is somebody that's been prosecuted and found guilty of something, and you can then go, 'I don't support this lifestyle or whatever.' I mean, it's all guesswork."

Accusations that Allen sexually abused Dylan Farrow first emerged in 1993. The case was never prosecuted and Allen steadfastly denies the allegations

Johansson did not take sides on whether the allegations were true, saying "I don't know anything about it. It would be ridiculous for me to make any kind of assumption one way or the other."

Scarlett Johansson hasn't made a film with Woody Allen since 2008.

Scarlett Johansson currently star as a seductive but deadly alien in the erotic science fiction thriller "Under the Skin." The film debuts on April 4.
