According to a report by GSM Arena, three phone companies in India have expressed their interest in developing smartphones powered by the Windows Phone platform. And knowing these three, these handsets would surely be affordable enough for the masses.

In the report, Times of India has unveiled some details about the upcoming Windows handsets.

Karbonn is set to unveil four smartphones, all of which boast quality specs and a price tag that will fall between the $100-200 category. While we don't know much yet about these devices, at least we already know that they'll be powered by Microsoft's mobile OS.

Meanwhile, Lava is reported to unleash devices which fall in the $105-140 bracket, and expected to make their debut this July. In the report, Lava's CEO himself Hari Om Rai mentioned that 8-10 percent of the company's smartphones in July would be Windows Phones.

As for Xolo, the Indian manufacturer will be developing its first Windows Phone-powered handset and is expected to be launched during Q2 2014. In an interview, a company's spokesperson stated that "We at Xolo believe that Windows OS has certain goodness to offer for a certain market segment and it will help Xolo reach a desired 15% share of the smartphone market by end of 2014."
