Fantastic Four, The Wolverine and a Mystery Marvel Movie Get Release Dates; Fantastic Four Movie In Trouble

Sequels to the films "Fantastic Four," "The Wolverine," and a Mystery Fox-Marvel movie and a secret Ridley Scott movie all got release dates.

Fox confirmed "X-Men: Days of Future Past," co-starring Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman, and Michael Fassbender, opens May 23, 2014. "Fantastic Four 2″ is scheduled to open a few months later, on July 14, 2017. 20th Century Fox also announced the release date for a mystery Marvel film, which is set to open in the summer of 2018.

The mysterious Marvel movie, which is set for July 13, 2018, could be another X-Men feature or another Fantastic Four movie.  Fox owns the rights to both franchises. The new addition to 2016 is an un-named picture to be directed by Ridley Scott.

There is speculation that the new Fox film will be a sequel to "Prometheus."

The studio's first Fantastic Four film, starring Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Miles Teller, is set to open June 19, 2015, but production for the first "Fantastic Four" movie has not yet started. The studio will release "Fantastic Four 2″ on July 14, 2017. Reports are circulating that the Fantastic Four reboot could be in trouble.

According to Bleeding Cool, 21st Century Fox has approached other potential directors to replace Josh Trank. Rumors say the studio is looking for new writers to replace screenwriter Simon Kinberg and are also looking to recast the main roles.

The new Fantastic Four films will star "House of Cards" actress Kate Mara, along with Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller from That Awkward Moment and British actor Jamie Bell. Six months before shooting is scheduled to begin, the Fantastic Four reboot allegedly hit a series of stumbling blocks.

According to Bleeding Cool, Twentieth Century Fox was very unhappy with how director Josh Trank and writer Simon Kinberg were handling "Fantastic Four."

James Mangold is set to return as director of the sequel to "The Wolverine." The first Wolverine movie earned more than $414 million globally last year.

The X-Men universe and the upcoming sequels to James Cameron's "Avatar" remain a top priority for Fox. Including the "Wolverine" standalone films, the X-Men movies have made more than $2 billion worldwide at the box office. Fox wants to get a leg up on the competition of The Avengers, Star Wars and DC's Justice League.
