Homeland season 4 actor James Rebhorn, who played Carrie's father in the past three seasons, has passed away at 65 due to melanoma, which had been diagnosed in 1992. Here are his five biggest Hollywood roles, in remembrance of James Rebhorn.

Rebhorn played Frank Mathison, the father of Claire Danes' character Carrie Mathison, in Homeland for eight episodes. But that's certainly not the only role he's known for.

Rebhorn's most popular roles include the headmaster opposite Al Pacino in "Scent of a Woman," Dr. Larry Banks in "Meet the Parents," and the U.S. Secretary of Defense in "Independence Day," Design & Trend reports. Although respected, Rebhorn never received an Oscar or Golden Globe nomination.

Another role Rebhorn is known for is as the lawyer that send Seinfield's four main characters to prison in the series finale. The episode was viewed by 76.3 million households when it first aired, which makes it the third-most watched series finale of all time behind Cheers and M*A*S*H.

Rebhorn also had a recent recurring role on the USA Network hit White Collar as Special Agent Reese Hughes, head of the FBI's Manhattan white-collar crime unit, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He also had stints as attorneys on the David E. Kelley shows The Practice and Boston Legal and recurring roles on Third Watch, The Book of Daniel, Law & Order and Big Lake.

Rebhorn was a mainstay of the Roundabout Theatre Company and most recently starred as a father stricken with Alzheimer's in Too Much, Too Much, Too Many, which opened in November at the Black Box Theatre in New York.

He passed away on Friday, his agent Dianne Busch confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. He was 65.

"He died from melanoma, which had been diagnosed in 1992," Busch stated. "He fought it all this time. He died Friday afternoon at his home in New Jersey, where he had been receiving hospice care for a week and a half."
