The Scarface remake 2014 will be directed by Pablo Larrain and Tony will be Mexican. Universal has been getting high on its own supply.

TheWrap reported that Larraín connected to the Scarface remake 2014 material. Because he was outside the Hollywood studio system, he brought a new perspective to the process. Universal announced that they hired the director of the films "No" and "Tony Manero" to bring the new remake of Scarface to the big screen.

Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larraín is talking with Universal Pictures and Marc Shmuger's Global Produce about directing the new Scarface movie. The "Scarface" remake will be a more mythic origin story that will tell the story of how Tony's physical and emotional wounds haped him as a man.

The basic story of Scarface will stay the same as the 1932 Howard Hughes/Howard Hawk film that starred Paul Muni. 1932 "Scarface" about an Italian immigrant's rise to power in Chicago, is considered a landmark gangster film. In the 1983 Brian De Palma version that starred Al Pacino.

The screenplay for Scarface was written by Two-time Oscar nominee Paul Attanasio, who wrote Donnie Brasco, which starred Al Pacino and Johnny Depp. The movie will be produced by Marc Shmuger along with Marty Bregman, who produced the 1983 movie.

The studio say the filmmakers plan to cast an authentic Latino who is bilingual and bicultural as the lead character, whose name will be Tony, but his last name won't be Camonte or Montana. The role could go to Oscar Isaac, Edgar Ramirez, Michael Pena or a complete unknown.

David Yates, who directed directed the last four Harry Potter, had previously been in negotiations to direct but he is committed to making a remake of "Tarzan"

The original 1932 Scarface, starring Paul Muni, George Raft and Ann Dvorak, was a Howard Hughes production. It was directed by Howard Hawks and Richard Rosson. The screenplay was written by Ben Hecht the novel by Armitage Trail. It dealt with the rise and fall of bootlegger Tony Carmonte. The 1982 Scarface was directed by Brian De Palma and written by Oliver Stone. It starred Al Pacino, Steven Bauer, Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert Loggia. The remake followed Cuban exile Tony Montana, who came to America as a political exile and found his fortune in cocaine. Both films are classics and considered iconic.
