Paul Wesley took girlfriend Phoebe Tonkin to the Humane Society's 60th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, March 29 - but his ex wife Torrey DeVitto was also in attendance! Awkward!

"Vampire Diaries" star Paul Wesley took "Originals" actress (and his rumored girlfriend) Phoebe Tonkin to the gala this weekend. We wonder if he knew that his ex wife Torrey DeVitto would also be on the red carpet!

According to Wetpaint, Paul Wesley and DeVitto kept their distance from each other at the event. Paul and Phoebe also avoided taking photos together, perhaps in an effort not to attract too much attention to their under-the-radar romance.

Paul Wesley and Torrey DeVitto announced their divorce last July, after two years of marriage.

"The Vampire Diaries" stars "have decided to amicably split. They will continue to remain good friends," People magazine reported at the time.

Since then, Paul has been linked to Phoebe (who also appeared on "The Vampire Diaries"). They were spotted hunting for apartments together in New York City last December and spent their holiday vacation together in her native Australia. Phoebe has also been hanging out with Paul's sisters recently.

Meanwhile, at the Humane Society's 60th Anniversary Gala over the weekend, Paul took to the stage to accept the Humane Generation Award for using his "massive star platform to advocate for farm animals and alert youth to the inherent cruelty of confinement on factory farms."

"I know that one of the main reasons that I'm here is because I happen to be on a television series that has a massive youth following," Paul said in his speech, Wetpaint reports. "Based on the interactions that I've had with Vampire Diaries fans all over the world, young people today are comprised of an incredible morally grounded generation. When presented with logic and with facts, they want to do the right thing. So ultimately I think this Humane Generation Award is representative of the younger generation that will take the right steps to create a positive change for the future."
