Miley Cyrus Scandals To Be Analyzed In A College Class? New York-Based University To Offer ‘Sociology Of Miley Cyrus’ Course

Miley Cyrus' scandals won't be discussed in headlines alone for they will soon comprise an official course in a university. This summer, the Saratoga Springs-based Skidmore College will be offering a course named 'The Sociology of Miley Cyrus: Race, Class, Gender, and Media.'

According to university assistant professor Carolyn Chernoff, the course will focus on how Miley Cyrus' scandals contributed to the 21-year-old performer's fame. Chernoff reportedly got inspired to create the course after previously discussing the former Disney star's 2013 MTV Video Music Awards "twerk" performance.

The sociology course will be "using Miley as a lens through which to explore sociological thinking about identity, entertainment, media, and fame." Miley Cyrus' scandals class will tackle her career starting from her 'Hannah Montana' days up to the image she currently portrays for her 'Bangerz' tour.

Chernoff likewise says that the 'Sociology of Miley Cyrus' isn't inspired by the course 'Politicizing Beyonce' which is currently offered by Rutgers University.

"Unfortunately, the way we talk about female pop stars and female bodies, class matters, gender matters, sexuality and sexual performance matters, but race matters a lot [too] and the way we talk about white pop stars is quite different than how we talk about the bodies of women of color. [Cyrus] complicates representations of the female body in pop culture in some ways that are good, bad and ugly," said the professor.

If given the opportunity, will you be taking the 'Sociology of Miley Cyrus'?
